We all live for those little surprises in life. My hubby & I were on our way home from our beach cottage rental when we decided to drive some back roads ending up in the little village of Peace Dale RI. We had noticed this small corner shop with bicycles being rebuilt with motors on them.....we had to stop. Eclectic energy flowing out the front door came a rough but honest man named Dan Dunn. I needed to know more. At first he was hesitant when I asked if I could capture him. "More of why me?" But he quickly warmed & opened up about a few journeys he had in life. Dan is an artist in all forms of the word. He tells us he was a working photographer years ago & now focuses on whatever art comes his way.
One of his ex-wives that he enjoyed photographing. He seems to love hard & speak highly of those who shared time with him.
His studio was like a candy shop for me. Between all his photographs, bike gear, & beautiful cameras he lives and breathes art. With a few of these images I had to do a little throw back to film & the "grainy" days. I don't know why but I get a kick out of the bike sign across the street from his studio where he builds the bike motors. Meant to be?
My hubby & I have been renting in RI for the past few years. When there, we always make a stop or two at "Crazy Burger". Not only is the food out of this world but the art they display & sell is beautiful. We had always admired a photograph there & wanted to purchase some day in the future. Well not knowing our pit stop in Peace Dale would bring us to meet Dan Dunn, the artist of the photograph we loved so much. We were beside ourselves, that we had been there chit-chatting & taking photos, that he was the artist. He pulls the photograph out, signs it, & said this is for you. Now that's a magical moment.
Thank you Dan! What great memories you have given us.
